Pokémon Center Tokyo: All Four Locations Compared

Tokyo has four Pokémon Centers and one café. Here is which one to visit if you only have time for one, and what each store has that the others do not.

Short answer

If you have time for one store, go to Pokémon Center Shibuya, because Nintendo TOKYO, Capcom Store and Jump Shop are on the same floor. If you want the largest store and the official café, go to Pokémon Center Tokyo DX in Nihonbashi, but only if you booked a café slot 31 days in advance.

The four Tokyo stores

Pokémon Center Tokyo DX (Nihonbashi)

The flagship. Largest floor space, widest stock, and the only branch attached to the Pokémon Café. It carries store-exclusive figures and plush that are produced in limited runs. Open 10:30 to 21:00 inside Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. East Building.

Pokémon Center Shibuya

The smallest of the four, but the best located. It is designed as a dim secret laboratory rather than a bright family store, and the Mewtwo capsule at the entrance is one of the most photographed spots in Shibuya. Its real advantage is the neighbours on the 6th floor of Shibuya PARCO.

Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo (Ikebukuro)

Inside Sunshine City. Includes Pikachu Sweets, a takeaway dessert counter that requires no reservation, which makes it the fallback if you could not book the Pokémon Café. Also has a trading card play area with free tables.

Pokémon Center Skytree Town

Inside Tokyo Solamachi at the base of Tokyo Skytree. On its own it is an ordinary branch, but it shares a floor with the Jump Shop, the One Piece Mugiwara Store and Donguri Kyowakoku, so one stop covers four separate franchises.

About the Pokémon Café

The café is reservation-only. There is no walk-in queue and no standby list. Reservations open 31 days before your visit date at 18:00 Japan time, and weekend slots disappear within minutes.

Practical steps:

  1. Work out your visit date and count back exactly 31 days.
  2. Convert 18:00 Japan time to your own time zone and set an alarm.
  3. Create your account and log in before the slot opens.
  4. Have a second choice of time ready. Do not spend time deciding.

Tax-free shopping

All four stores handle tax-free processing for visitors on a temporary visitor status. The threshold is 5,500 yen including tax, per store, per day. Bring your physical passport — a photo is not accepted.

Because the threshold is per store, it is usually worth concentrating your buying in one branch rather than spreading it across all four.

Which to skip

If your schedule is tight, skip Skytree Town unless you are already going to Asakusa or Tokyo Skytree, and skip Mega Tokyo unless you want Pikachu Sweets or the card play area. Shibuya and Tokyo DX are the two that justify a dedicated trip.
