Captain Tsubasa

Nine bronze statues across two neighbourhoods in east Tokyo, and a station wrapped in the manga.

Captain Tsubasa is arguably the most influential manga in the world that English-speaking fans know least about — it is credited by professional footballers across Europe, South America and the Middle East with getting them into the game. Author Yoichi Takahashi grew up in **Katsushika**, east Tokyo, and the ward has installed **nine bronze statues** of the characters across the **Yotsugi and Tateishi** neighbourhoods, supervised by him. **Yotsugi Station** is wrapped in artwork from the manga. Katsushika publishes a walking map in Japanese and English, free, and the whole circuit costs nothing.
