Hyouka

Takayama, drawn building by building, in a town people already travel to.

Hyouka is set in **Takayama**, the old merchant town in the Gifu mountains, and Kyoto Animation drew it with the accuracy that studio is known for. **Hie Shrine** is the model for the shrine in the opening and the New Year episode; **Kanshokan**, the French-style wooden library building, appears in the research episode; and the preserved streets of the old town run through the series. The advantage over most pilgrimages is that Takayama is already one of the most rewarding towns in Japan to visit — the morning markets, the sake breweries and the festival floats stand on their own.
