Kids on the Slope is set in **Sasebo** in Nagasaki in the 1960s. The long climb to school is **Hachiman-zaka**, a real slope leading up to Sasebo Kita High School, which is the model for the school. **Miuracho Catholic Church**, right by Sasebo station, is the church the two childhood friends attend, and the Mary statue beside its chapel is the one the character returns to. **Kameyama Hachimangu** shrine and Kashimae beach also appear, and the live-action film used **Kuroshima Church** on an island off the coast.
