Angel Road
A sandbar that appears out of the sea twice a day. In the opening and on the film's key visual.
A sand spit linking Shodoshima to a small offshore island, submerged most of the time and walkable for a few hours either side of low tide. It appears in the opening of the first and third seasons and on the key visual of the film.
Why it is worth it
The timing is the appeal — you cannot get there whenever you like, and the road appearing is the thing you came to see.
When to go
Busy at low tide in summer.
Good to know
Check the tide table before planning your day — the crossing window is only a few hours and it moves daily. Shodoshima is 126km around, so rent a car, bike or scooter; buses alone will not cover the locations.
