Anime location

Shiroyama Viewpoint

The view down over the whole village. This is the shot the series uses when it shows Hinamizawa from above.

A viewpoint on the site of a former castle on the hillside above Ogimachi, looking down the length of the valley with the farmhouses laid out below. A shuttle bus runs up from the village, or you can walk the path in about twenty minutes.

Why it is worth it

It is the defining image of Shirakawa-go and it is free.

When to go

Busiest late morning to mid-afternoon.

Good to know

Go early. The shuttle queue builds through the morning and the platform is small. The walking path is steep but short, and it is usually faster than waiting.

Higurashi: When They Cry
