Yuwaku Inari Shrine

The model for the shrine in the series, and the main venue of the Bonbori Festival held every October since 2011.

A small shrine on the slope above Yuwaku Onsen, the model for Yunosagi Shrine in the series. Since 2011 it has been the centre of the Yuwaku Bonbori Festival — a festival that existed only in the anime until the village decided to hold it for real. Thousands of wooden prayer tablets are hung and then burned, exactly as in the show.

Why it is worth it

An anime invented a festival and a real village adopted it. Nothing else on this site works quite like that.

When to go

Extremely busy on festival day in October; quiet otherwise.

Good to know

If you are aiming for the festival, check the official Bonbori Festival site for the date and book Kanazawa accommodation months ahead — the village itself has only a handful of ryokan. Outside the festival it is simply a quiet hot spring stop 50 minutes by bus from Kanazawa station.

Hanasaku Iroha

The shrine, and the venue of the festival the anime invented.
