The Franky statue stands at Takamori Station, the terminus of the Minamiaso Railway — a small line that was severed by the 2016 earthquake and took years to restore. A shipwright at a rebuilt railway is not an accident.
Why it is worth it
Riding the Minamiaso Railway to get here is the better half of the visit — it runs through the caldera floor.

Quiet.
Good to know
Parking is limited. Train services are infrequent, so check the timetable — but the ride is the point, so take it if you can.
