Museum

Iga-ryu Ninja Museum

Not a NARUTO location — this is the real Iga ninja tradition the fiction draws on. A relocated farmhouse full of working trick mechanisms.

Three facilities in the castle park: a late-Edo farmhouse relocated here with its hidden doors, reversing walls and floor traps restored and demonstrated; an exhibition of tools and documents; and a ninjutsu demonstration using real weapons, performed by a resident troupe. Shuriken throwing is available to try.

Why it is worth it

The single most common question from overseas NARUTO fans is where to see real ninja. The honest answer is Iga, and it has nothing to do with the manga — which is the point.

When to go

Busiest at weekends and during the spring ninja festival.

Good to know

The show and the shuriken throwing cost extra on top of admission — budget for all three. Iga is about 90 minutes from Osaka or Nagoya. Many visitors rent a ninja costume in town, which locals treat as completely normal.
