A campsite on the sloping northwest shore of Lake Motosu, looking straight across to Mount Fuji. It is where the series opens, and the pitch by the water is the frame from the first episode. Lake Motosu is the deepest and clearest of the Fuji Five Lakes.
Why it is worth it
You can sleep in the frame from the first episode. Very few pilgrimages offer that.
When to go
Fills up at weekends and in autumn.
Good to know
Booking is online only through the official site and opens 60 days in advance — it goes quickly, so decide your dates early. Public transport out here is limited; a car is much easier. Nights are cold well outside winter because of the altitude.
