Shopping
Nakano Broadway
A four-floor 1960s mall filled with Mandarake shops selling vintage figures, cels and out-of-print merchandise.
Nakano Broadway is a time capsule. Mandarake operates more than twenty specialised shops inside it, each dedicated to one category — vintage Showa toys, animation cels, idol goods, rare manga, watches. Prices range from a few hundred yen to genuinely collector-level.
Why it is worth it
This is where you find merchandise from series that ended twenty years ago — things that no longer exist in any store outside Japan.
Only here
Original animation cels, Showa-era Bandai and Popy toys, out-of-print figures.
When to go
Rarely crowded. Note that most shops do not open until midday.
Good to know
Do not arrive before noon. Bring cash — some smaller shops still prefer it.
