Mashiki recorded the strongest shaking of the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, and the Sanji statue stands in the town sports park. Free entry, free parking, open at any hour.

The placement is the point of the project — the statues went where the damage was worst, to give people a reason to travel there.

Good to know
It is about 20 minutes by car from central Kumamoto and close to the airport, so it works as a first or last stop on a Kyushu trip.
