Akihabara Radio Kaikan

The building from the opening — rebuilt in 2014. Same corner, same name, same signage, different building.

The original Radio Kaikan, an Akihabara landmark since the 1960s, was demolished and replaced in 2014. The current building occupies the same corner outside the station with the same rooftop signage, and it is full of hobby, figure and card shops. It runs official Steins;Gate collaborations periodically, which is the closest thing to an acknowledgement the series gets here.

Why it is worth it

It is the single most identifiable location in the work, it is thirty seconds from the station exit, and it is free. Just know what you are looking at.

When to go

Weekends are busy.

Good to know

Do not plan a trip around a collaboration you read about online — they are periodic, not permanent. Check the building's own site for what is currently on before you go.
